Academic Accomodations for Students with Disabilities
University of Guelph
The University of Guelph is committed to creating a barrier-free environment. We feel that providing services for students with disabilities is a shared responsibility among students, faculty and administrators. This relationship is based on respect of individual rights, the dignity of the individual and the University community's shared commitment to an open and supportive learning environment.
For detailed information about campus accessibility visit the University of Guelph's accessibility page.
At Guelph, eight areas of disability are recognized as likely to occur among the university population:
- learning disabilities
- attention deficit disorders
- hearing disabilities
- vision disabilities
- physical disabilities
- medical disabilities
- acquired brain injuries
- psychological/emotional (including Aspergers Syndrome)
The Centre for Students with Disabilities (CSD) offers specialized programs and services to students registered at the University of Guelph (full-time or part-time undergraduate and graduate).
Examples of our services include: academic accommodations, adaptive technology, sighted guides, a team of professional advisors, referrals, screening services, and exam centre accommodations.
Students requesting academic accommodations or support, or those who are applying for disability specific funding will be asked to provide appropriate documentation from a medical or mental health professional to verify their disability.

The Accessible Learning Centre provides academic support to students, with disabilities, such as accommodated examinations, assistive technology, alternate-format course materials, learning strategies and study skills, note taking and tutoring contacts. Students with disabilities are accommodated to remove obstacles that would otherwise impede participation and success in their university experience. Disabilities supported include (but are not limited to) mobility, learning, medical, psychiatric/psychological, chronic pain, acquired brain injury, vision and hearing.
While documentation of a disability is required, any student who suspects a disability should contact the Centre.
